All You Ever Wanted to Know About Polarized Sunglasses
Polarized sunglasses are here, there and everywhere. The following paragraphs will enlighten you on the lesser-known aspects of polarized sunshades.
History of Polarized Sunglasses
Before we come to the emergence of polarized sunnies, here’s a quick word on general history of sunglasses. The first known use of assisted visual aides was by Roman Emperor Nero, when he watched gladiator fights with the help of emeralds. The Chinese claim to have been using flat panes of smoky quartz to protect the eyes since 12th Century. But the modern use of glares was introduced by James Ayscough during the mid-18th Century, when tinted lenses were used in an attempt to correct specific vision impairments.
Since then, sunglasses have evolved with the rapid advancements in science and technology and now, we’re witnessing some of the remarkably unbelievable developments in sunglasses manufacture.
Polarized sunglasses were first introduced to the world in 1936 by Edwin H. Land with his attempts at making these sunshades using his patented Polaroid filter. This was a small start that has now transformed into an industry where substrates and latest lens technology processes offer better clarity, protection and comfort to the users.
How Polarization of Sunglasses Help?
In a nutshell, polarization of sunglasses helps in eliminating the glare from sunlight. The process is understood thus. When the sun’s rays fall on water or any other reflective surface, the reflected light becomes polarized, i.e., almost all the light waves move in one plane. Now, the normal light moves in many planes but the polarized lenses only allows the light to pass through the lens in one plane. This, in effect, removes the glare from the light that finally touches the eyes.
A vertical polarized lens is used to eliminate the glare. Actually, the glare is not completely eliminated. Only the selective portions of reflected light are eliminated. The most common use of polarized sunglasses is by the fishermen, who use them to block the light reflected by water surface.
Most water sports are best enjoyed wearing polarized sunglasses. In order to compete better, in order to secure your eyes from glare, and in order to enjoy what you’re doing, it’s best if you are wearing polarized sunglasses.
The best polarized glares are the ones offered by designer houses. However, they are not too pocket-friendly for ordinary folks with limited means of income. A cheaper and wiser alternative is to go for replica polarized sunglasses, which are not just cheap but also offer maximum UV protection. These imitation polarized sunglasses are made from top quality raw material that is similar to that used by the designer houses, like Gucci, Ray Ban, Fendi, etc.
